Cheers Toroham. Good the that Cav has another crack at the race. His form this year has been getting better - he has beaten some top sprinters for the first time in a while.

Nice one, looking forward to seeing Cav crashing into everyone in bunch sprints this year, just like old times. Brilliant.

Feels like it's a little open this year for the GC.
I absolutely can't see Thomas seriously contending again, though. (Would love to be wrong)
Same with Cav in the sprints, but it would be great to see him pick up a few more. He's been 'stuck' on 30 for an eternity. If he could pick up those wins he needs to get to Merckx then it would be a fairy tale.
What's the calibre of the other sprinters he's up against this year? Does he have a chance?

One of the things that I respect the Manx Express for is generally seeing a tour through. Not for him the sprinter dilettante attitude of picking up a few flat stages then pulling out before the hard mountain stages occur.
I hope that he sees this your through to a Champs Elysees climax.

It would be magic for him to pick up 35 on the CE this year.
I fear there is virtually zero chance of it happening though.

Cav has beaten some good sprinters this year but I cant see him beating the very top sprinters if it comes down to a straight up sprint. However if quickstep have enough people supporting him (i havent looked at who they're taking yet) there wont be anyone with a better train so they may elevate his chances.
If he picked up one stage win it would be a phenomenal comeback. I'd love it if he did.
Just seeing everyone else shitting their pants with him in the sprints will be entertaining enough. There is nobody more unhinged and willing to take risks for the win than him, not like the relatively polite sprints you get these days. He is mental.

Cav holds his own but is nowhere near as bad as some (he doesn't deliberately punt poeple into the barriers Groenwegen style). Abdoujapurov was the worst as he had no idea in which direction he'd veer next which sometimes ended badly for him. Nacer Bouhanni is nasty as well and Sagan can handle himself. I think only Sam Bennett and Caleb Ewen are guaranteed to beat Cav with the form he is in and Merlier probably would. He beat Ackerman in Belgium and Ackerman is one of the best.

I love the big cycling races. Its like a hundred races within a race at any point of the 3 weeks. You think this is a bore. Its not. The racers need to think. Its very tactical. Not like 5 tall fuckwits racing down a hall throwing a ball at a net and the five others racing up the other end and throwing a ball at another net and so on and so on. Sit down and try and follow whats going on if you can think you will not be bored.

The entertaining thing about Cav is that he doesn't mean to smash everyone, he just does. Cos he's mental. Can't wait to see it. I think there are at least three or four people in the race that would beat Cav in a straight up sprint but hopefully his team will negate them somewhat.

My Tour de France would be something different.
You cycle leisurely from vinyard to vinyard, and sample as much of the produce as you can.
Wouldn't want to watch it, but love to be in it.

He does have Morkov who is the best lead out there is. Heard this week that they were on the same team briefly when they were teen amateurs.
The Grand Tours are, indeed, complicated as there are so many different races going on at once in any given stage (TT excepted).
Sometimes the best stages are lumpy ones that sprinters might it to end in one piece, the breakaway has a chance and a GC race could unexpectedy erupt as well. Crosswinds are the best.

Which one are we doing then? I dont know if I can be arsed to do the official one, although that is the one I tend to do best in, just outside the top 30 in the world a few seasons back!
